Assistant professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Prof. dr Wouter Cools (°03/05/1976) obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and recreational sports activities (Pedagogical Qualification included) in 1999 (Antwerp University College). In 2003 he graduated in Physical Education (Masters degree) and in 2010 in Physical Education and Movement Sciences (PhD) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels. His PhD was titled: “Flemish preschool children’s fundamental movement skill performance and their opportunities to be physically active at home”.He is currently employed half-time as a professor at the Multidisciplinary Teacher Training Institute (MILO) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and half-time as a lecturer at Artevelde University College Ghent, educational Bachelor of secondary education, physical education and recreational sports activity. In addition to a varied educational package, his research activities and international track record are situated within the domains of physical education and physical education, motor competence, physical activity, fitness and health, inclusion, physically active learning, activity based learning, teaching without stereotyping and the use of technology in educational settings.He is a member of the VUB Movement and Nutrition for Health Performance (MOVE) Research Group and the MILO research group and of the UGent-VUB Physical Activity and Nutrition Alliance Research Group (PANU). Since 2015 he is also Co-Chief Editor of the “Journal Teaching, Research, and Media in Kinesiology” (JTRM).
